We love our neighbor when wee identify with their experience and anticipate any needs they may have. That is what it means to love our neighbor.
If we look to Jesus, we can see that he loved his neighbors by relieving their hunger, curing them, forgiving them, etc. And he did not stop there. In order to love perfectly and completely he suffered and gave his life for them.
What meaning is there to all these sufferings? Why does God-L:ove permit them? We see in them the countenance of Jesus Forsaken, so we embrace them, but often we do not ask ourselves about the reason for such suffering.
Since God makes all things work together for good, there must always be some precise purpose for every affliction. These things are intended by God or at least allowed by him for our purification and for the welfare of others, for their spiritual growth and advancement toward God.
Yes, there is always a reason. Chiara Lubich
